The product was packed in plastic and then the tail was also wrapped in airtight plastic in the bag (pictured). A label indicates that the item is not used. I removed the plastic to check the quality. The material is light and feels comfortable. The color matched the ad. There is no evidence of previous use. The only smell present was factory. The necklace is simple but cute. The mermaid is big. Instructions for use and care were included. I will give it to my nine year old son.
