Review on πŸ“€ Samsung DVD-VR320 DVD Recorder: A Versatile and Efficient Media Recording Solution by Brandon Show

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Should have been called back

I know freezing and the issue of firmware updates shutting down this unit completely have been mentioned many times, but I decided to put my name in the record list. The slot is now only a video recorder, since the DVD compartment does not open after a firmware update. I also wanted to mention the poor DVD compatibility. I tried 5 different brands of DVD (all DVD-R) before I found one that fit this thing. Still, quite often it recorded for about 5 seconds, then froze and you had to turn the device off and on again. (the reason for the failed attempt to update the firmware). I had to do this several times before the device finally continued to record. Another annoyance was the fact that the name of the DVD (what you see in Windows Explorer) when you put it in your computer was always SAMSUNG DVD. Why bother with the tedious task of naming a drive with the remote control? I have never been able to find out where this name was actually used. Like other reviewers, I was also annoyed at how long it took the unit to recognize the DVD (and MUCH longer to recognize a blank DVD-R). Seriously, I put the DVD in, THEN I started making popcorn and hoping it would play when I got back. Samsung also just released a firmware update that even if you get it to work doesn't work. doesn't seem to fix anything. This device was never meant to be on the market. I will definitely be VERY careful with Samsung products in the future.

Pros
  • DVD Players and Recorders
Cons
  • Very Expensive
