The zip on this wallet gives the impression of quality as it closes and opens easily and securely. The wallet is large enough for a slim phone so my screen is protected in my purse (I have a Samsung Edge 7 with a slim case). Leather. I think I would call it varnished. It's tough and not at all porous like most leathers, it's almost like plastic. The fringes are cut from the same embossed leather as the wallet, very pretty and make the zipper easier to open. The material inside isn't what I would call luxurious, but it feels durable like it's going to last. Overall a well made item.
