Review on ☕ Atmos Vacuum Canister for Coffee & Food Storage - Airtight Sealed Container, Matte Black, Medium Coffee Bean Storage, 0.7L Jar by Michelle Frey

18-32 turns for vacuum, maybe a little short for 1 lb of coffee

I haven't heard what type of glass is used in the glass version (I hope borosilicate but I can't find that spec), so I went for the stainless steel version (1.2L). This canister closes well and has a sleek, minimalist design that I really like. However, for my medium-sized hands (my glove size is usually M or L for men, depending on style/brand), I find it a little tiring to grip, twist the lid back and forth to create a vacuum. Turning clockwise is the "working" stroke, gradually removing air from the interior, while turning counterclockwise prepares the lid for the next working stroke. Completely empty it takes 32 clockwise strokes for the light to turn green (I expect this number will increase over time as the valve ages). Filled to the brim with whole coffee beans, it takes 18 strokes to achieve the desired vacuum. (Note: I repeated the blank and full test 3 times). As for volume, the first bag of whole beans I tried couldn't fit a whole pound of whole beans into a 1.2 liter can and still close the lid. Even to the brim the whole bag wouldn't fit in; and you need to leave about 1/4 inch for the lid to close. Overall, I had to omit about 12 tablespoons on my first try. I may have had an unusually generous bag of coffee (and volume versus weight). has many variables) so I'll update this data point after working with a few 1lb sacks. However, I think Fellow should have designed this as a storage solution with a little more headroom. to offset the volume volatility of a commodity like 1lb of coffee.
