Review on ๐ŸŽง Razer BlackShark V2 Gaming Headset: THX 7.1 Spatial Surround Sound with 50mm Drivers by Angel Cortez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

(Really) great entry-level wired headset

Considering how much it costs, I had relatively low expectations for this headset. I had a Corsair Virtuoso SE wireless headset with a great microphone and very good sound, but the connection to my PS4 was never very reliable and I noticed audio dropouts quite frequently. PS4 friends have sworn they use the 3.5mm jack on the controller so I decided to use that for testing. Build quality The first thing you notice when you pick up the headset is how light it is. It feels a bit solid, but it's also clear that this isn't a headset that favors premium materials. It is also very comfortable as it is so light. While I've never had issues with heavy headphones and neck pain, taking that into account, lightweight materials should be great for long sessions. Faux leather overlays on inner and outer ring. The part resting on the head feels more breathable. I don't think I will have problems wearing them for long sessions. The clamping force is at a good moderate level where they don't accidentally fall off, but I don't feel like I'm in a stranglehold. Mic quality I made a few calls with the mic and I think that's a huge compliment for the quality of the mic, no one thought I was wearing headphones. "Like you actually spoke on the phone." Although they have a gaming vibe, I could definitely use them for conference calls (while the video was off). In principle, the microphone is excellent. Audio quality I expected things to fall apart here, but that's really not the case. . I decided to make a totally unfair comparison between them and my pair of Sennheiser HD600 powered by an AudioQuest DragonFly Black DAC/amp. Clearly, there was no competition between the two headphones in terms of vocals or detail reproduction, but the Razer were by no means bad headphones. It had clear and real bass, not muddy. I have a feeling the Corsair Virtuoso had a fuller sound, but the uneven compound ruined it. I think gaming tends to be more forgiving than listening to music. So I ran a few games as a test. I tried a game that I think focuses on background music (Unravel) and it sounded great. I also tried something more explosive (Borderlands 3) and found the headset just as competent. Disadvantages (but not barriers) The volume control works exactly the opposite of what I feel with every other volume control in my life. Clockwise turn off the sound?! WHY?! I'd really like an LED to remind me I'm muted. My first call attempt failed because the sound was on. Conclusion The Razer Blackshark V2 X might have a terrible name, but it's an amazing product for the price. I don't play as many online games as I used to and I listen to a lot more music. It makes sense to me to have great headphones for music and single player gaming, and a cheap headset for online gaming with friends and conference calls. This works for me.
