I love this gauge. It may be overkill for my basic needs (outdoor grilling and baking), but it does exactly what I need it to. Accurate temperature readings in an easy-to-use format. It was set to Celsius, but after pushing a few buttons I changed it to Fahrenheit quite easily (pull the trigger, then press the T/DN button). It can be configured to notify you when the temperature is above or below a certain point, report an average temperature, or simply report the temperature at that location. The temperature reading can be adjusted to compensate for differences in emissivity. Materials such as wood, stone and metal radiate heat differently. This will affect the accuracy of the reading if you don't have an emissivity adjustment. The kit comes with a screwdriver (which I just noticed), a soft case, a carabiner, a 180-day guarantee, and detailed instructions. I don't like that you have to loosen the screw to insert the battery. The tiny screw is very difficult to replace as it sits deep in a narrow recess on the bottom of the device (see photo). Without it, the battery compartment will not remain closed. When I couldn't find a magnetic screwdriver, I found tweezers and used them to hold the screw long enough for it to turn. When I tried unscrewing it a second time with the included screwdriver, I found that you didn't have to unscrew the screw all the way to open the battery compartment. hp This device is NOT designed to measure human temperature. WHY? A good reason is to blind someone with a laser if it gets in their eyes.
