I just installed my first planted tank (10 gallon). I was looking for a good light source and needed a new one with a timer so I didn't have to remember to turn it on and off every day. All YouTube videos and online recommendations are geared towards Finnex Stingray or similarly priced flashlights. As my first aquarium, I didn't want to get carried away and overpay for every little thing. I decided to roll the dice because I knew I could always get it back and I'm very glad I did. Physically, the light itself has a very low profile, sitting about 1 inch above the rim of the tank (maybe less). It generates very little heat and the sliding arms adjust smoothly to the tank and fit securely. The quality and finish is very good and to ensure reliability I ran this flashlight at full power 24 hours a day for a week , then longer a full week with the 24/7 timer with no issues The light itself is BRIGHT at maximum intensity Key features include full spectrum light (with the ability to change the lighting to one spectrum/color if needed), timer capabilities (including 24/7 7) 7) and the ability to adjust the light intensity if necessary. Timers that need further explanation. You have three main options, simple on/off, 24/7 mode and customization: The 24/7 function essentially makes the light work automatically. I don't remember the exact time, but around 6-7am the light turns on with a gentle intensity in the orange light spectrum to mimic dawn, then runs through the day to full spectrum and then ends with blue light. /indigo in the evening around 8-9 p.m. until nighttime around 10-11 p.m. The only downside is that the light intensity CANNOT be regulated in this setting. When it reaches full daylight, the full spectrum becomes BRIGHT. If you have plants with low light, this can be too much. With the individually adjustable timer, you can set 3 light durations: 6 hours, 10 hours and 12 hours. The good thing about these timers is that you can use them to adjust the intensity of the light. The downside is that you lose the beauty of changing spectrums of light, as this mode only toggles between ramping up to full spectrum and vice versa. It's a little annoying, but it doesn't bother me. Setting the timers is a bit of a hassle as the controls work by counting button presses to select options. For example, to switch between different brightness levels, color spectra or time settings, you have to press the buttons several times to switch between them. Not a big deal since you really only have to do this once to set up the timers. and freshwater kelp in this tank and everything grows very well with this light. All in all, a great little light for anyone who doesn't want to pay 2-2.5x more for a similarly "loud" light source.
