Poor design but cats love it
Mounting holes are designed to not align with standard 16" studs. Align at least the center mounting hole with a bolt, eventually the weight of the cats jumping on it will pull the bolt through the mounting plate. I had to reassemble with large washers and new bolts to keep this from happening again. Very lucky, my cat didn't hurt me both times, the shelf detached from the wall and fell to the floor.
