Review on Phiaton 120 Black Wireless Headphones by Michael Welborn

Revainrating 2 out of 5

OK light headphones, strap and NC

I had several Phiaton devices starting with the BT 210 NC and then the BT 220 NC which wore out in a year. I bought a second BT 220 NC but it was a less than happy experience as it fell apart within a few weeks but customer service was good and sent a replacement. That's why I was happy to buy the BT 120 NC Curve for training. Good points first - the design of the collar is great and works well. The noise cancellation is excellent. The full charging time is about 90 minutes. Headphones are good. OK / Annoying - it's a micro USB charging port. There are many voice prompts when the battery is low. It goes from a full charge to a moderate charge quickly without giving a good idea of how long it will last. The sound is acceptable but benefits from the inclusion of NC. Poor - I had a one off experience where voice call quality was poor for those listening to you with very choppy audio. I also had an experience when I got a call while listening to music and the headset vibrated. I pressed the answer button on the headset and nothing happened and it kept vibrating. I answered a call using the keypad and the headset kept vibrating. I ended the call and the headphones continued to vibrate. Unplugged and plugged the headset back in and the headset started vibrating again. I turned the headset on and off and the headset kept vibrating when turned on. In the end, restarting the phone completed this cycle. Although Curve is advertised as Qualcom Apt-X, it is actually an Airoha chipset. How many stars should you give him? As for BTv4 and Micro-USB, it will be a quad at best. The relatively high price and uniquely poor sound quality put it in the top 3. But the obvious problems with the firmware are related to advertising the wrong chipset. I like my early Fiaton but this is too much. Two stars.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
