Expensive for a disposable camera

XP10 very cheap for a digital camera and very very cheap for a waterproof camera. Unfortunately, that's quite expensive for a disposable camera that seems to belong to me. I bought this for snorkeling and kayaking in Hawaii, thinking it would be smarter than using one of the fancy zippered "camera bags" for my better gear. In the end it's hard to say. The quality of photos, buttons, menus, functions is all pretty marginal. Not bad for the price but not up to current standards. The underwater shots I got were surprisingly good, but the ones above the surface didn't even compare to my old Canon cameras. A tiny, tiny lens is very difficult enough to dry after immersion in water, then take dry pictures without water droplets in the frame. The buttons and the directional pad are terribly small even for my rather small fingers. The LCD screen is terrible - not bright enough for daylight and too reflective for underwater use - and there's no rangefinder to use if you can't see the LCD. Actual pictures come out big, but again we need to increase the number of megapixels - a large number of low-quality pixels on a very small image sensor does not make the camera any better. However, if he could vacation for more than a week, it would be fine for simple underwater or surfing shots. and it was fun to play with. Unfortunately, while I was obsessed with opening and closing the battery/storage door either indoors or in the car (where I could be sure the seals and hinges were clean), the system failed after about 4 shallow snorkeling expeditions - and before ours long kayak tour through Na'Pali. It just wouldn't turn on anymore. Moisture could be seen at the bottom of the battery compartment with a flashlight, although there really was no water there. Ironically, I bought and used a disposable Fujifilm camera for a kayak trip. The photos were only slightly worse than with the digital camera. I'm afraid I can only recommend it for outdoor use where only light rain or extreme temperatures may pose a problem. Sent in for repair (too late to return). Anyone want a used one?
