I compared 1000 lines with 500 lines and I have to say that 1000 lines can definitely show more details in the spectra. They are great for introductory discussions about spectroscopy in astronomy classes; what do i use them for What the student can expect after an explanation of what to look for is a series of spectral rainbows with absorption or emission lines. The lines change position depending on the elements and energy levels. Yes, that sounds very elementary. But for the inexperienced student, it can be instructive and exciting. I found these gratings an excellent introduction to spectroscopy; and a good reason to use higher quality spectroscopes.
