I bought a very small one for my cat. Size 14x22 inches. It also fits perfectly in her sleeper. I always find her sleeping there when the house gets cooler. I've had it for a few months now and have no complaints. She threw up on it once and it was very easy to clean. I tossed it in the washing machine and then just let it air dry. I'm not sure enough to throw it in the dryer because it has a special lining inside and I'm afraid it'll kinda ruin it if I do. I even took the largest size for me. Honestly, I'm very comfortable in the coldest room of my house. I keep it on the couch where I sit most of the time and my cat will sit with me on the pillow next to me. It doesn't make you sweat. If you don't insist on layering clothes and blankets, then yes, you'll get too hot. Both sizes I bought are brown. I love that you don't need electricity to get them working, for me that's a big plus in so many ways. Update: I bought a few more of these pillows to put in other beds in the house for my fur. As soon as I put one of the new ones in another bed, she immediately rushed to her. I was due to pick her up an hour later and she was very snuggly and warm - so yes it works. Mom and fluffy approved.
