The coasters can be easily broken by hand, even a slight bend will crack the middle. This is pretty terrible for their intended purpose, but it makes them easy to work with. They're also quite thin, which means you can get a high level of detail when layering them for sandstone outcrops. The smooth top and sides are fairly easy to sand down, meaning you can get a very nice texture with less effort and material than with a stiffer cork sheet.
