I have an 8 year old dog that we adopted from a shelter. He's always had a number of annoying issues that we've been able to tolerate in the past. But after moving to a new house, for some reason, these problems aggravated very quickly. I've spent a lot of time on YouTube to learn how to train and fix these problems. Participation in online dog training by subscription. After about 1-2 months I managed to fix most of the problems using only positive countermeasures and some small changes in how we deal with them. I managed to solve most of the problems like barking at the door, knocking on the door, opening the garage door, jumping on visitors, barking on the leash at walkers, barking when family members in the house something talking loudly to each other, etc. However, there were two other problems that I couldn't solve with exclusively positive methods. These were: 1. Fence fights when we shared a backyard fence with 4 other neighbors. 2. Barks and throws himself off the leash at other dogs on a walk (although he is now good with people). I have thought about using an electronic collar for my pet for a long time. It was either putting up with my dog's bad behavior and risking neighbors complaining about his fence fighting, or bringing him back to the shelter to be someone's problem. I decided to purchase this eCollar as a last resort and I am very happy with it. Fence fights were fixed in a matter of days using only levels 6 through 9 and very good timing. Before eCollar, when he started getting mad, I would have to go out into the backyard at night on a leash, try to catch my dog, leash it, or carry it inside. Aggression towards other dogs during walks in the fresh air is now significantly reduced, but I've only been wearing the collar for about 2-3 weeks. I also use eCollar to improve heel and response on the road. Putting an eCollar on his heel only requires level 2 outdoor work stimulation and I can get him to walk right on my lap by occasionally applying level 2 eCollar heel pressure from level 8 onwards the stimulus starts to be felt . This is more of a feedback for my dog to move out of the heel zone and to come back. Of course, this is not a punishment at all. For long line outdoor recall, I mostly work below level 10 to get his attention so he comes back when he's really distracted. It took me a long time to make the decision to purchase eCollar, but I am now fully confident that I made the right choice. First, I took the time to learn how to use it properly. After using it for about 2-3 weeks, I didn't break the bond with my best friend, we are still good friends. In fact he thinks it has strengthened our bond as he is much more in tune with me despite having been deaf to my ear in the past. I've found that he's learning to let me take walks and he just has to follow, that's all. Now I think there is hope that maybe in a month or two my dog can be off the leash. Once there is no more aggression towards other dogs and his heel and recall are fully reaffirmed by strong distractions, I will take him off the leash but only with an electronic collar to be on the safe side. If, like me, you struggle with dogs and are thinking of returning your dog to a shelter, DO NOT. Try it. I highly recommend that you first take the time to learn how to use it responsibly on our best friends. There are many free high quality videos on YouTube. The battery lasts about 2-3 days before I need to charge it. There were also no issues with the inconsistent stimulation levels mentioned by others. But every time I make sure it fits my dog well. As said, take the time to learn how to use it properly to get the most out of it and treat your dog humanely and with respect.
