Installation (pretty easy):=========If you already have a wired doorbell, installation is easy.* AFTER the circuit breaker is off, you just need to reuse all cables connected to your existing installation and connect them to the mounting plate. a much thinner set of cables than the existing wiring. but I suspect most people would have this problem as the space for wiring between the doorbell and the mounting plate is negligible (pretty poor design IMO) WiFi pairing (simple but limited) ===== == === * As mentioned, you must be on a 2.4GHz network. You must also broadcast your SSID (it cannot be hidden). Otherwise it won't work/connect to the network (although the instructions say it can). If you generally prefer to hide your SSID, I would suggest using a router with a guest network and enabling the 2.4 GHz guest network for it. Functionality ==========* Chime, so check it out. * The video is quite clear when recording and the playback function is good. * Motion detection sensitivity is quite limited. in our case, it only works when someone is directly in front of the doorbell. Maybe 5 feet maximum (and that's with the most sensitive settings) * Because it needs to be streamed over the network, there's a fairly long delay (more than 5 seconds) before the video starts, so the doorbell remote answer feature doesn't allow for this do seems to exist, if whoever it is still was won't stand a little. Most of the time, like the delivery people, I don't even see them when the video comes out.* Luckily. When they trigger motion detection, there seems to be some sort of video buffer, as the video is captured a few seconds before the motion trigger. Camera motion detection to start recording (to get more range). This feature, although it claims to work, has NEVER worked for me. No recording despite receiving multiple Nest Cam traffic alerts. I think I would be happy if only this feature worked. Overall it's good, but it has limited security features. When a criminal walks right up to your door and tries to break it down. then he will probably write them down. Otherwise, it's something of an expensive doorbell with a two-way speaker (which comes in handy sometimes). EDIT: After about a year it stopped working - at first I thought it was the transformer, but after some more debugging I found that the problem was in the doorbell itself. I wanted to like this doorbell, but I'm sure I'll choose another low-tech solution.
