Excellent little flashlight for traveling

Wow, that's a handy flashlight for a small travel kit. I was able to use this on both a small light stand and a Beastgrip Pro for fixed lighting. The color is very consistent at all power levels and it's very bright. The mount could be stronger as it's made of ABS rather than nylon or metal, so I recommend buying a spigot and using it with an umbrella adapter if possible. The barn doors aren't removable either, and the hinges appear to be fragile, so be careful with them. They stay in place well, and the pebbly finish does a great job of avoiding hot spots. Variable performance is pretty good, but since it's a digital wheel it might not track properly if you spin it too fast. That being said, there's plenty of scope for fine control - probably more than most people need. The flashlight has three power options, which is surprisingly handy. I bought two Sony style external battery packs along with an additional external DC power supply. But you can just pop in a few AA batteries and you're good to go. I haven't drained the batteries yet so I don't know how long they will last. I'm not a fan of color filters as they are difficult to apply, although I'm happy with that. were included. This light is bright enough for interviews, but is also good for simple portraits and small subjects as it doesn't get hot. The fan noise doesn't bother me as I don't currently record video and see a way to avoid it most of the time, even with audio recording. The spread of the beam is pretty good, and I really like its unique twist. The doors do a pretty good job of basic sculpting and can handle cinefoil if needed. The gels easily stick directly to the doors or to the surface of the LEDs when using hot light materials. I'm not sure I would trust the cheaper stuff, but most purpose made gels will work just fine. Overall this is a very good flashlight to fit in a portable/lightweight kit. I plan to buy a few more for product and cellphone photography.
