Review on πŸͺ Poyet Motte Aubisque 500GSM Heavyweight Wool Blanket - Made in France (Camel/Natural, Full/Queen Size) by Trina Taylor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Real wool, nothing special, old-fashioned blanket.

I bought this blanket to replace the Swedish 'health blanket' that kept me warm during my school days (or rather nights) a thousand years ago. (We needed warm blankets in my house because my dad turned off the thermostat.) I've kept him luxurious and shapeless for all these decades because he had a nice, thick, shiny, not very scratchy coat. And it was hot as hell. In the end I decided to replace it not because it was worn out but because it was too frizzy to cover the bed. Remembering what it looked like in its glory days, I decided to find the exact same blanket as it did back then. Of course, we now live in the age of duvets. Sweden either gave up health or wool, which I don't know, so "healthy blankets" are no longer needed. You can find wool blankets, but they're mixed, or Hudson's Bay style, or frou-frou style, or sandpaper. Only one, Poyet Motte, came close. The wool is the same as a blanket that has served for more than half a century. I think it's smooth and shiny and not remotely scratchy. Very well made and very warm. If I buy another one I'll take the middle weight because I'm not as frugal as my dad and I don't turn the thermostat down at night. But even the heavy weight isn't uncomfortable – if you look at woolen blankets you already know that – because wool has a much broader range of comfort than down and doesn't sweat. This duvet is not as thick as my old ideal. However, it is a very good wool and very well finished. I love it. Follow my 50 year report on the durability and state of the wool blanket market in 2070. See you then!
