Used 2 times so far. Once upon a time there was an admittedly unfortunate application - more snow than ice, which requires snowshoes. Still excellent traction. The second was for a steep climb (i.e. turns all the way) that was very muddy. I didn't use them on the way up, but I think they were crucial for safety on the descent. It's much easier to slip on the dirt on the slopes. I've never slipped into them and they held up great on rocks (I know ideally you don't want to use them on rocks, but they seem strong enough to hold my 200lbs on it). they were removed after use and found no rust etc. After some people have complained about chain links falling apart, I would advise keeping the clutch in your kit beforehand. Haven't had any issues yet but if I do I'll just see how the warranty/customer service is. They don't really adjust after a mile or so, but that's an easy fix. I was able to reorient them until they stood up properly - I guess it's a matter of technique, but not too bad.
