Works well apart from the flaws

This review was written two weeks ago when we installed the hob for the first time. I've edited the review with new comments and information in brackets. When our 30 year old cooktop died we spent hours and days looking for a replacement. We were hesitant to buy this one as we were concerned that the low price would mean poor quality. It is not. [But it has several serious design flaws] This hob is a high quality product. Continuous gratings are essential. The flame ignites easily and stays burning. [The flame is adjustable from weak to very strong. But even with the smallest flame on all burners, including the so-called cooking burner, the flame is too high]. The black glass surface is easy to clean; but the round plates of the burners have a deep narrow circle which is almost impossible to get into to wipe away stains. If you don't use a cotton swab, you won't be able to wipe up the spill. And if it's an oil spill that's frozen and caked, you're out of luck. See photo.) An added bonus is that the hob needs a bit of depth under the worktop. You can have drawers under this hob. Most other hobs are too deep to fit in drawers. The countertop cut-out required is 2 inches deep. Since most countertops are 1 1/2 inches thick and cabinet frames are another 1/2 inch thick, this cooktop can be installed in a cabinet with drawers. I love this logo and the burner. The ads are under glass rather than printed on it, where vigorous cleaning will eventually remove them. Some minor [change this to serious!] complaints - downgraded to 3 stars from a perfect 5 stars. The flame is too high. The front burners are not centered. Can't see where or how to put the pot. Burner caps become discolored after a single use. The metal burner base has a deep indentation that is difficult to clean. I wanted the security of an automatic reignition. Couldn't find a glass hob that had one, so I opted for thermocouples (the thermocouple shuts off the gas when the flame goes out, which is also a good safety measure). The installation instructions were neither clear nor complete. A G-strip foam tape was included and I had no idea where to put it. It runs along the perimeter of the glass surface and acts as a buffer between the hob and worktop. Overall this is a great choice for [budget] hobs. But if you are a serious cook, look elsewhere. We're not sure yet if we're going to keep it or send it back.
