gigabits? PoE? Works well? Yes to all three.

Works exactly as advertised. I did my "homework" (research) and read many reviews on many products. Many reviews are cautionary tales describing the hardware damage (and regrets!) associated with *not* using Ethernet surge protectors. I currently use two of these; one to protect the WAN port that powers my router and one to protect the LAN port (that powers the 24-port Gigabit PoE switch). After all, the overvoltage and transient protection is based on a "layered protection" approach! A few notes: 1) The path to reference/ground/earth should be as conductive as possible (low resistance and impedance). Therefore, this "ground" wire should be as short as possible. I don't find the cable length of these devices too short; They seem to be the right length for what they are intended for. 2) These are gas discharge tube blocks commonly used for surge protection in telecom/datacom (of course I'm skeptical, I opened one up by unscrewing four screws on each side. And yes you can clearly see the gas discharge). tubes that provide protection for each Ethernet pair); Overall build looks good. 3) Again, "layered protection" should be your overall surge protection strategy (think your broadband connection, maybe a whole house surge protector, decent surge protector extension cords for point-of-use switches/routers, etc. This is especially true for any Ethernet runs that are long are (possible potential differences) and/or extend outside your home/building and onto the street (lightning doesn't have to be a "direct strike" to bring down all sorts of chaos in networks - surges can be caused by indirect lightning strikes, etc. caused) 4) Last but not least, most surge protectors are designed to be "sacrificial". Because they can't protect your gear (I suppose a blown fuse would be a better analogy). To be clear, I don't expect these devices to fail any time soon. But if they do, that means they worked! And for the price of these units, everything suits me.
