I used about 120 per tire on my 4x4 quad, the stock tires I have don't have much tread depth so I had to get 3/8: length bolts. Traction on ice, almost like in thick mud, as well as excellent traction on logs and frozen mud. I lost about 15-20 on each rear tire on the first ride and maybe 5 on the front tires, lost on the second ride which had a few rocks sticking out of the snow and a bunch of logs to walk through I pretty much all them rear (maybe 5 residues each) but for some reason only lost about 20 from each front tire. Basically, I think the lesson here is that these things work great, but 3/8 inch threads aren't enough to hold them.
