This sleeping bag is almost identical to the Halo brand. However, the fabric is softer. It's thicker and softer than the Halo fleece sleeping bag I have. I could imagine it being warmer too! I shared a photo of two bags and you can see they are almost the same size and shape. The only real difference in design is that the Hudson Baby has a more rounded neckline, and because the fleece puller is, the zipper sometimes gets a bit stuck. My kid loves this type of sleeping bag. He hated swaddling because he liked his hands (he even vomited while the nurses were changing him in the hospital!), so he likes the freedom of his hands in a bag. I love that it still retains the warmth of the blanket without allowing you to cover your face with it. And although the pouch is looser than a diaper, it still makes baby feel secure by holding their legs. not designed for 8 hours of sleep! But I think it's a great alternative to a blanket for safety reasons. I washed it a few times on normal cycle with my regular baby detergent and tumble dried on normal cycle. No pilling or excessive lint issues. He's still very soft. My baby was about 13 pounds and 25 inches long when I bought him. It's a mid-weight, technically starting at 16 pounds, but considering the style, I don't feel you need a tight fit. The neckline isn't too loose and that's the only thing that bothered me. It is the same size as the Halo brand. I would definitely buy it again and give it as a birthday gift. Edit - It's almost 3 years later now and I'm using these sleeping bags for my second child. Still very happy!
