I bought them assuming they had an insole. My daughter needed black cross country shorts so I looked for black running shorts and they fit. Underneath she has to wear cycling shorts, which could be a nuisance when walking. Why make kid-sized shorts that would be terribly revealing on the playground or floor at team stretching. They are also transparent and very short.
