A technology that was initially expensive in clinics, but is now also available at home at reasonable prices. I have tried a large number of these IPL devices so far and I can say that all of these IPL devices work the same way with slight differences between them. Among the most notable differences:** Is the device just for hair removal, or does it also promise "skin rejuvenation" or acne relief?** Does the device offer an "ice" feature, where the flash head's heat sink reduces the heat on the skin* * Does the device have an LCD display for reading information such as number of flashes remaining, power level, etc.** Is the device itself ergonomically shaped like a pistol or tube, or is it head sized for targeted use on spots like lips?* * How many flashes is the device rated for maximum (most devices are rated for 500,000-1,000,000 flashes, which is a lifetime) and should provide equivalent functionality. It's on the lower end of the spectrum, offering only a hair removal mode and no DVS functionality. However, it offers a pistol shape that I find the most comfortable to use. Features of this IPL device: ** Performs hair removal only. **NO ICE skin cooling feature **LCD screen shows number of flashes remaining and power level (1-5) **Gun shaped device - most comfortable to hold **Power cord attached to end of device (see photo) **No flash end caps* * Rated approx. 999,900 flashes, 5 power levels. The operation is quite trivial: 1) Connect the power cord to the IPL device and plug it into the socket (the device is NOT battery powered - it must be connected to the mains). 2) Turn on the device using the power switch located on the top of the device under the LCD screen. 3) Select the power level to use (you have five levels and can toggle between them with a short press of the power button). The level is displayed on the LCD screen. 4) Place the front of the device on the skin you want to treat and press the flash button (in the gun-shaped trigger position). (You can also put the device in "Auto" mode, where it will flash every time it touches skin. To put it in Auto mode, press and hold the flash button for 3 seconds.) There is a few seconds of refractory time after a boost before you can flare up again. The light is extremely strong and can damage your eyes with prolonged direct exposure. Therefore you should never look directly into the light and cheap folding glasses are included in the scope of delivery. The light is turned on by sensors on the front of the device. With very slow movement I was able to capture the light (see photos). But the duration of the light is very short. Run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair, making sure to uncover all the hair follicles in that area. You won't see instant results. The light signals that your hair has stopped growing, but it takes multiple treatments over several weeks before you see results. Eventually, you should see significant hair reduction in the treated areas. In the box you get a tool, a power cord, eye protection goggles, a cheap disposable razor, some cotton swabs and instructions. This tool is rated for approximately 999,990 flashes. (So it should probably take longer than your interest in it). One thing you don't get with this tool are attachments that can make it easier to work on specific areas of the body. Some IPL removal tools contain them. The actual value of such tools is debatable, and the core functionality (which is a bright flash of light) doesn't change. The markings on the lamp holders are small stickers that can fall off over time. I would have preferred if they had more permanent markings. This IPL device is among the cheaper models available from Revain, although it only offers the IPL hair removal feature. That will be enough for many. And this one is in the shape of a pistol, which I prefer to other shapes - it's more comfortable to hold, especially since you'll be holding this device for a while while grooming your hair. Depending on the relative price, this is definitely worth a look.
