To be clear, if this humidifier was safe, I really liked it. The design was almost perfect. Cleaning is easy. The functionality of the essential oil turned out to be top. One thing counts above all: safety. This humidifier failed and overheated after 8-10 days of ownership. The ultrasonic component overheated, boiling the water in the humidifier and creating hot steam, which then damaged the piece of furniture it was standing on with the water. That's bad enough, but based on how hot the humidifier and water were when I got to it, I'm concerned about the potential fire hazard. Needless to say I boxed and returned this humidifier that I wanted to love. I've never seen heat emanate from an ultrasonic humidifier, and my advice to Levoit is to add a few more fail-safe devices to their humidifiers to ensure they shut down if the ultrasonic component fails. If my humidifier had just shut down, I could just cycle it off and on again, or worst case scenario, clean it and then continue using it. However when it damaged my furniture and made me nervous it had to be returned. Although the concept of this humidifier is excellent, I cannot call it safe and do not recommend it. There are many safe brands of humidifiers that will shut off if they malfunction.
