My 10.5 year old son wears 5.5 inch shoes which are so wide we don't actually make shoes or socks in that size but you will find out for yourself. We've always had a problem finding shoes, but now we have a problem with socks. His foot is too big for children's socks but too short for most men. Since we bought women's sandals for him, I decided to try women's socks and they work really well. The color is gender neutral, they are short but have good stretch and the heel still touches the heel area. They're lightweight and provide enough protection under his baseball boots, but they're not too thick to make the shoes snug on his feet.
