Review on Microsemi Adaptec External Cable 2282600 R by Doug Virden

Reliable Cables on Mini-SAS Cables

I have two LSI MetaRAID 9361-8i cards on a VMware host, each connected to an Intel 36x expansion card. I have two sets of cables (four cables total) to connect these expansion cards to an external enclosure. These cables from Microsemi were bought first. Another set was later purchased from a different manufacturer because it was half the price but had good reviews. Both cable sets have been in operation for several months. Conclusion: Less expensive cables lost connections many times, resulting in arrays having to be rebuilt. Luckily we haven't lost any data yet. Any time these cheaper cables bump or move (without touching the connection points) even a few inches down the middle of the cable, they almost always lose drives in the array. Unlike those Microsemi cables, this has never happened before. Even if they are moved, they permanently retain their connections to hard drives. Due to their high reliability I will definitely use these cables in the future instead of the cheaper ones. You really do get what you pay for.
