Great camera for rafting

I bought this little camera to take with me rafting. Specifically, a week-long trip through Desolation/Grey Canyon, Utah. It was important that it was waterproof, shockproof, and inexpensive (I don't want a $1,000 camera to get lost in the river). This camera does everything great! The camera is definitely waterproof. We submerged the camera several times during the ride and even got some good underwater shots of a clear spring we passed. Unfortunately the Green River was quite muddy, so the only suitable place for underwater photos was a spring. The camera is definitely shockproof. He survived as an 11-year-old girl on a kayak crossing the rapids. I winced a bit when I saw the camera shake as she paddled, but she handled the insults well. The only damage the camera sustained on the trip was a small amount of sandblasting on part of the paint. Functionally, the camera is great! The pictures are great but it takes time to learn how to take great photos. I spent a few nights at the beach playing around with different settings and trying to figure out what works best. Everything from macro shots to beautiful night sky shots and action sports shots. There are a few things that kept me from giving this camera a full five stars. First, battery life. You really need extra batteries and some sort of AC adapter charger. I took a solar charger and 5 batteries with me on the trip. Second the screen. The screen is not a good representation of what your image actually looks like. I took a few shots that looked awful on screen but looked great on my computer. Third, ease of use. The truth is point and click camera. The camera automatically selects the best settings for the captured image. It's great in theory, but it takes practice to get the Auto feature to take pictures the way you want them to. I strongly recommend trying each setting manually and then learning how to get the camera to take those shots automatically. This is a great camera. I love it. I'm very glad I bought it and would highly recommend it to anyone. The truth is point and click camera. The camera automatically selects the best settings for the captured image.
