This is exactly what I expected for the money. ALL 24 of my candles were perfect for the party I was planning to throw. You'll need to pull out the tabs that separate the battery from the post, but you don't have to cover them to do so. Just pull a little and they will pop out. Then switch the candle to the on position. Yes, they are yellow (flame color), white candle outside, yes, they are made of lightweight plastic and look like plastic in bright light. They also look good in the dark and their LED flicker is moderate. Not too fast, not too slow. They have NO moving flame to flicker, they are fully lit with a faint and glowing flicker. If you're looking for a quick and inexpensive way to brighten up a darker environment, this is great. If you're concerned about the environment, simply remove and discard the batteries and the plastic candles when you're done.
