The smell is not leathery.
Quite smelly - oily, oily smell. No leather - I like the smell of leather. I had it outside, I had it with air conditioning. It seems to be improving slowly but surely. Would I buy again? Probably not, since it is neither soft nor malleable. But I have it, so I'm keeping it.
