I would not choose them for a headlight or taillight. Absolutely not bright enough to light the way at night. I use them as extra lighting on the sides of the bike. Red on the rear triangle and white on the forks, pointing at a 90° angle to the direction of travel. I ride in a city with very late nights as the summer rolls around, moderately busy streets in many areas, and a population that isn't particularly knowledgeable about bikes. For the price, it's a great complement to reflectors (and high-intensity headlights, of course) to allay my fears that a motorist might not notice me soon enough.
