Standing upright is probably fine. Be prepared for A horizontally: Very little rise in mid section due to the extra head sticking out about 1/16th. B: Wine bottles are not inserted in the same way as the clamps are positioned differently than normal metal bars. Most people won't mind, but it annoys me a little. I put small and strange bottles in the middle column to accommodate them. Also, don't think you'll loosen them once they're in place, they'll be pretty permanent. Ultimately, these are cheap molded plastic clamps and should be a lot cheaper.
