I was looking for a hat with a wider brim than baseball caps for my 21 month old son. He usually blinks when it's very sunny outside and I wanted his ears and neck to be completely covered. This hat was spot on, the brim was hard enough not to obstruct the view. And the adjustable strap around the head really helps, my son doesn't seem to mind putting on a hat at all but then again he usually wears hats very well. The tie straps are two elastic straps that hang down each side for a small size - I took them off because they bother my son, they come off easily.
