I love Slik products. I've had this tripod since 2009 and the legs are really great. They weigh 9 pounds. for itself, but great. Multiple locking positions, strong tension arms, long center post (reversible!), this tripod does a lot of things right. What kills me is the round quick release plate. It has huge costs and huge benefits. It's round so you don't have to worry about aligning the quick release plate with your tripod when setting up your camera, making it easier to use. But. It's round, so its shape doesn't help fix the camera. Instead, it relies on a tension arm which, in my experience, wears out with two SLIK tripod heads. In this case, when shooting portraits, the camera doesn't really stay in place and plays more and more over time. As a mobile photographer, I no longer use this tripod. It's solid but heavy. However, the legs are fantastic and for my money the next step would be $600 carbon fiber. Just look out for the round quick release plate.
