These negative reviews are from people who obviously have no idea how to use pads. You don't want the seal to be rock hard in most applications. These pads are the perfect combination of stiffness and flexibility. You're rocking in an easily breakable/fissile toilet bowl, not a metal rail. Anyone who negatively cites the flex of the pad misses this strong plus point: The pad is supposed to stick to two hard surfaces on both sides. Also, you want to be able to slide the spacer through until it offers a noticeably strong resistance when flexing. Then take a utility knife or razor blade and cut it so it lands under the toilet. Finally, caulk around the toilet and you now have a toilet that fits tight without hesitation. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
