Absorbency may not be a good criterion because you really want it to protect the mattress rather than absorb it. I use it with disposable absorbent pads that can be thrown away without having to wash the bottom pad every time (this product). Washes well with hot linens and gets softer with wash while retaining its shape. Dry on medium or low heat. I try to take it out of the dryer when it's slightly damp to dry on a plastic hanger. I have two of these: one on the bed while the other is being washed. It's big enough to be tucked under one side of the mattress and big enough to cover the 'target area'. Doesn't make whistling noises. I recommend the largest size for versatility; it can be a folder for use in a chair or car. Great for children and the elderly. salvation for our family.
