Yes, it smelled. However, it is not forever as others have said. Washed once with hot water and tide and the robes smelled like brand new linens. In addition, the material is new. Feels like soft flannel after a few washes. I have black and gray and black and dark green with red. I'm 6 feet tall below my knees.
