This microphone solves a difficult problem. When I use video conferencing software (particularly from Ring Central or Zoom), the software interprets my voice (which is fairly quiet) as background noise and cancels it out. The solution is to put the mic right next to my lips and that allows me to do that. However, this creates other problems. My laptop has the same input jack as most cell phones - it's 3.5mm, 4-wire, so the microphone and stereo headphones go to the same jack. The connector on this microphone is a perfect match for this configuration. So when I plug it directly into my computer it immediately turns on the internal sound card which does the AD conversion of my voice and everything is fine. EXCEPT that plugging anything into that combo input jack will also disable the internal speakers, causing the video conference to stop abruptly, since there are no external speakers connected in this configuration. -3 pin adapter) and external speakers need to be plugged into the same combo jack and I could use one if I wanted to. BUT the inside of a laptop computer tends to be a fairly noisy environment (electrically) and external microphone inputs therefore tend to be accompanied by noise. If the noise is unwanted (like in my case) there is a better solution. Use a USB audio adapter and connect a microphone to this adapter and the adapter to a USB port. Because the AD conversion is done outside of the laptop, there's usually a lot less noise, and as long as you haven't screwed up the combo audio jack, the internal speakers will still work just fine. Anyway, this seems to solve my problem. .
