It feels a bit thin/flexible on its own before you put your laptop on it. Tolerances aren't great, but it works well and supports the weight of my laptop, which is at the upper limit of the advertised screen size. I now have a way to bring my laptop's screen closer to the height of my main dual monitors (they are tree mounted) and I like that it raises the base of the laptop and encourages passive airflow/heat transfer. I'm sure it reduces thermal wear on the components, although I'm not sure how much real benefit it brings.
