Review on πŸ“Έ LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II (Black): Compact and Powerful Flash with Enhanced Features by Steve Modesto

Crisp light with cool color temperature

This is a very cool little light (in many ways). Having a built-in flash that is detached and becomes an external flash is a great idea. I also like that it's compact. The controls work well and appear to be of good quality. The buttons look great, as does the clasp. The whole block looks well thought out. The packaging is simple. You get some color gels, a USB charging cable with two B connectors to charge the flash and transmitter, and a flash and transmitter. I wish it had a plain white reflector as the light itself is very, very bright. I used flashlights with softer edges than these. The brightness is also not as advertised. In my limited testing, the GN66 appears to be closer to the GN30. This may be due to the type of lamp used. I have several GN58 and GN36 flashes that I use regularly, both of which outperform this flash in terms of light output. Its color temperature is also unbalanced - it seems much colder than any other light I've used. Between those two issues, I'm wondering if there's a lack of color spectrum. The reload time is over 7 seconds. This is understandable as it only requires two AA batteries instead of the usual 4. It fires before it's fully charged, which is good when you want to snap a photo and don't care if it ends up getting a bit dark. I ended up leaving it as street photography flash and adding a homemade white reflective card to soften and maybe even warm the light. Pros: - Compact running flash - Cordless quick trigger works great - Quality build - Better than no flash Cons - Doesn't produce the same amount of light as my GN58 or even my GN36 - The sharpest light I've ever used, which makes it handy with no diffusion renders it useless - Slow recharge time at full power - Very cold color temperature causing the light to lack spectrum.

Pros
  • Test for one year
Cons
  • Reliability
