So this all started because I have a giant L-shaped desk that has NO DRAWERS. Background: I have some similar undershelf baskets from Ikea, and I really like them--they're super easy to put stuff in, they make for more space underneath them (double the space!), and it's just an overall great concept! But the Ikea ones aren't drawers! The idea that I might get the Swedish engineering of baskets AND they slide-out? All of my dreams have come true! (I also thought these were "stackable" drawers, so I could hang one drawer off another. Don't ask, I work too many late nights.) Back to Ikea, the idea of undershelf baskets that slide out is amazing. Sadly, this is that great concept but poorly executed. Let me do the negatives first, then I'll move on to the positives, if I can find any. Let's just say your mileage may vary. The assembly instructions are unclear. I didn't know if the bottom "crossbar" of the front and back of the drawers should go inside or outside the vertical mounts. It actually made a difference! I think the bottom crossbar had to go outside the mounts, or the drawer didn't fit together right. The baskets (and the assembled drawers) are flimsy. For the love of all things green and good, trying to get the assembled basket drawer into the tracks was NOT fun. And while the flimsy drawer is bending and trying to escape the tracks, one must screw a tiny but long-ass screw on each side a million times to get it through the track from one side to the other so the drawer has a stopping point when pulled out. The screws were terrible and hard to get started, and I'm fairly sure the fact that they wiggled around so much after forcing the start meant I cross-threaded them and it really irritated me. The screw heads were TINY, and the location of the screws after you had the basket trapped on the tracks was ridiculously inconvenient. I know I was cursing and stripped at least one screwhead. But wait, there's more! Those same little crappy screws are stupidly long because you're supposed to screw them a million times to get them through the tracks, and then you're supposed to screw them 2 million times more to essentially anchor the drawers to the underside of the shelf. I didn't want to damage the bookcase by putting little punctures into the surface, so I tried to find another way to secure the drawers.Weirdly, one drawer was either torqued or bent slightly that it was snug and fit amazingly well after sliding it on to the shelf, without adjusting the screws. It slides in and out smoothly and is great. The other drawer was a nightmare. It was super-loose and unstable and just a pain in the butt to operate. I finally decided to see if I could "snug it up" a bit by turning the screw, but not to the point that it would make bad punctures in the surface underneath the shelf. Yeah, it's still FUBAR. That's also the drawer that I cross-threaded one of the screws. So the other drawer is loose, which makes it difficult to keep the frame and tracks stable, so the drawer doesn't really pull out without a fight. NOT sturdy. That snugness against the bottom of the shelf is critical to the sturdiness of these baskets/drawers. If they're snug against the shelf, they operate fairly well, but mildly flimsy. If you can't properly "snug up" the drawer to the shelf, forget it. The drawer is more of a liability than an asset. And lastly, I want to note that although I checked the size on these, and they were 11 inches (by 11 inches, I think), they do NOT hold standard letter-size documents. That's what I wanted them for! (Not to whine, but my Ikea undershelf baskets easily hold letter-size documents.)So, positives: They look pretty good, and the idea of a slide-out basket it a great concept. I think these weren't a great fit for me because I didn't want to risk damaging my bookcase shelves with the screws. And hey, these still have some good storage capacity! If I use them for anything, it will be something like office supplies (that can't slip through the weave of the baskets) or maybe some kind of computer/tablet/phone charger or accessory bin.
