My beloved husband removed the layer sticking it to the floor (and the first layer of sticky mat along with it) so do NOT do this. It really sucks. Use a numbered corner to find the correct layer to clean. If you don't pick it up like we did (there are 4 packs so the other 3 are still good) they work beautifully. I can't stand vacuuming stairs and we have hard floors everywhere so it's so easy to keep track. I have one at the bottom of the stairs and it really reduces the need to clean them. I suspect ideal use will yield excellent results, but we're a long way from that goal. My little one doesn't stick to it like a glue trap and you can suck really big chunks out of it. They are super duper thin so you REALLY need to use the numbered corner to scrape off the layer (and read the numbers - I usually take 2 together until I check the numbers). White is a little less noticeable than blue for our home, and with the frequency with which my husband and toddler enter and leave the house, I had no trouble figuring out when it needed cleaning. Each sheet lasts almost a week in our use, so it was very affordable in that sense.
