Review on Wine Chiller for Sommeliers by Chris Litton

My wife gave me this for Christmas and I think it's fun and healthy. To be clear, this product is not designed to chill wine quickly - if you start with a warm bottle of white wine it will take a good hour or two to bring it up to temperature. A bucket of ice water is best for quick cooling. It brings the wine to the right drinking temperature. This will take some time, but it will heat wine that is too cold or cool wine that is too warm. Most people serve white wines too cold and red wines too warm. This device allows you to serve it at the optimal temperature. However, I have two criticisms of the product that prevent it from getting the full five stars. First, the insulating collar is too small. It fits a standard bottle perfectly, but if the bottle is too big (like some 750ml bottles) there will be a gap between the bottom of the collar and the top of the device. This is not a fatal error, but it is annoying. The second problem is that you cannot enter a custom temperature. For example, if you want your wine to be served at 65 degrees, you can't just set it to that temperature. Of course, you can always lie to him and choose a wine from his menu whose recommended temperature is close to your preferred temperature. But just letting us set the temperature would be a good option. But let me get one thing straight: despite these two relatively minor flaws, this is a great product and we've enjoyed it. Plus, it reinforces my image as a wine snob when I use it with guests!
