I cut off the cleats about 1/4" to help my son stop tumbling across the field. He complained that he felt like he was "walking on pencils". Great for deep/soft turf or muddy conditions. But in a dry field they are ankle supports, remember a child weighs 40-60 pounds in them, they don't quite dig into the turf when playing.
