I don't lick and only wear pads at night if I sleep more than 3 hours if my baby is sleeping breastfeed until the next morning. I wore bras at night but had to wear pads to soak up the milk. Also, I sometimes have sensitive cracked nipples and have found that not all pads are created equal and not soft enough. I found these pads soft enough not to cause nipple rubbing. I also woke up with wet pads but the rest of me was dry so it was nice not waking up with a wet shirt. The glue is good and there are plenty of them in this pack so I can change pads often if needed.
