I bought the blue lights first because I wanted to make a jellyfish costume for Halloween. There were 6 strings in the set, each with its own battery. The battery is very light and has a small switch. I'm not sure how long they will last as I haven't pushed them to their limits. I think they last several hours with constant use. For my costume, I didn't leave the lights on all night. mostly just for pictures and to show off in front of people. Later, at Christmas, I took my jellyfish apart and decorated my apartment with them. They stayed on for 4.5 hours while I had company and neither battery died.
