An ordinary person cannot assemble this item. As mentioned, there are no holes or marks on the metal plate. I actually inserted and slightly tightened two screws to center the plates over the holes and then installed the screws. Then I took them out and went to the next step. This straightened the plate, but then the holes in the little foot were slightly misaligned. This caused the bolt to go in crooked no matter what I did. The cheap Class 2 gear also required a very light cross-connection. I was very careful and the bolt started to twist and I had to clean it. At this point I realized that the holes were slightly misaligned and I would have to clean out one hole with a 1/4" bit. After that, everything fitted smoothly. All the other holes were perfect, right where they needed to be. The bed is real good for the price if you put it together it would be a 5 star rating minus the assembly issues if you are not so comfortable I would probably look at another bed.
