Even though the XL is the right size, it wandered to the side when walking and hung completely on its side. The chest strap had very limited options, Velcro wherever it was, and he has a narrow chest. It didn't have a matching strip in the right place to mount it. I did what I thought I needed and traded it in for a big one. Having taken the photos for this review (shown in large size) I'm sure the large size fits terribly as well. I wanted to get by as it fits his chest and stays in place but barely fits his head and doesn't reach the end of his body. The fact that I use a soft line is the only way I can catch him on the line. The hole for the standard line is now too far back. I'm sure it will work for most types of dogs, but it doesn't do us any good. Don't you hate it when you're between sizes?
