Not all Surface Pro chargers are created equal. If you have the Core i5, Core i7 version, you will get another more powerful charger with a USB adapter that can charge your phone from the same power bank. However, base models with Core m3 processors use a much less power-hungry processor and require less power. As a result, Microsoft ships a much smaller, more travel-friendly power adapter with these versions. Basically it is an exact copy of this smaller adapter. It's about half a millimeter larger than the original, and the original power cord is about 8 inches longer. When lit, there is a faint glow around the power/charge indicator, indicating it's of slightly lower quality than the original. But it charges the Surface Pro 5 (2017) m3 just fine and otherwise appears identical to the factory charger in every way. Unlike the factory charger, it comes in a neat little pouch that's perfect for travel. So can you use it if you have one of the more expensive Surface versions to save size/weight when traveling? I suppose you could, but be aware that it charges very slowly. Microsoft avoids this lower powered charger simply because the m3 processor draws power much more efficiently than the i5 and i7. This charger is rated for 15 volts, 1.6 amps (or 24 watts).
