Good value for money but be careful if you want to upgrade

This is a good system for the money as you don't want to upgrade. Good: You get an i5 processor, two Gb LAN ports and WiFi, 3xUSB 3.0, Type-C, Mini-DP and HDMI with Windows 10 Pro! This makes it a worthy choice for a basic workstation, media server or HTPC. Cons: HDMI only has a 1.4 specification, so the monitor only works with HD resolution (1280 x 1080). I've noticed fan noise when it's horizontal in its normal position. If you put it on its side vertically, the fan noise disappears. Probably the fan bearing, which is a bit concerning. It has an M.2 2280 slot but only supports SATA SSDs. It will not work with an NVMe style SSD. If you want to add 8GB SODIMMs, it may not work. I couldn't get it to work in dual channel with 2x8GB sticks. It works fine with a stick (single channel) in both slots, but with both it just reboots. I used two ZIFEI DDR3L-1600 SODIMM modules. Based on information on the manufacturer's support forum, this seems to be a known issue, but some brands work (e.g. Timetec - https://bbs.minisforum.com/threads/my-u700-doesnt-run-in- memory) . -Dual channel mode.1509/). This is a problem as it may be related to the BIOS. Which, by the way, the BIOS is super simple. You can set the time and date, the password on the storage device, the boot method (legacy or UEFI), and your boot device. That's all. I also ran into some strange boot device selection issues that I was only able to fix by resetting the BIOS settings to default. Bottom line: If you don't know what a BIOS is and don't want to upgrade your RAM or SSD, buy one. If you know what a BIOS is and want something that you can easily update, you can look elsewhere.

Pros
  • Many will do
Cons
  • Slightly dented
